In the comic book world some events can be hard to backup in real life because the science explained in the comic is fictional or the possibility of it happening in the real world is near impossible. As comic book readers we accept this because we understand its fictional world, we brush over the how’s and the why’s as it’s not important. As long as it fits the story and world of the comic then we embrace it.

For some people this isn’t enough; They want to find out if certain comic events or heroes can be explained and even proved right in the real world. A recent Stanford News story interviewing Sebastian Alvarado, a postdoctoral research fellow in biology, talks about how Sebastian applies the concepts of epigenetics to explain how your average Joe could become superhuman.

Using epigenetics, Sebastian offers a real world explanation of how Steve Rodgers transformed into Captain America.

What Sebastian has explained is credible and makes sense, but when it comes to another superhero, the theories do need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Sebastian provides a theory on Bruce Banner’s transformation into the Hulk
